How an Alarm System Works
All alarm systems are comprised of a combination of devices and modules that communicate with a control panel. When the system is armed and one of the devices is breached, the alarm panel will send a signal to the Monitoring Station. A call is then placed to the proper authorities and/or the Keyholders.
- Control Panel - all modules and devices are connected directly to the control panel. this panel is usually installed near the electrical panel or mechanical room.
- Keypad - is usually located near the entrance door to your home or business. The systems we install are capable of handling multiple keypads which allows us to place additional modules at secondary entrances, bedrooms, offices, etc.
- Door and window contacts - are installed to provide perimeter protection.
- Motion detectors - are located at strategic locations throughout the home or business to provide interior protection.
- Siren - is usually placed in the return air duct of your home's heating system or above the ceiling tiles in the office of your business.
- Battery - All systems have a back-up battery which allows the Security System to operate normally for 8 to 12 hours in the case of a power failure.
There are many other devices and options available to add to your Security System such as monitored smoke detectors, glassbreak detectors, high water sensors, low temperature sensors, etc. All of these options can be discussed during our initial visit to your home/business.
Whether one of the devices is breached or you initiate a call for help, your alarm system will seize your phone line and dial our 24 Hour Monitoring Station. Our professional dispatchers act quickly to contact you and/or appropriate emergency authorities.
